Implants are the ultimate solution to replace single or multiple missing teeth. Unlike bridges or dentures they do not rely on other teeth, but sit on their own on a titanium support that will fuse with your bone. The titanium support is usually allowed 3 months to intergrate with the bone. Then a crown is placed over the titanium support and you will have a beautiful natural replacement tooth that will last for many years.
Implants do cost significantly more than some of the other treatments and are not suitable for everyone. Patients who are smokers, grind their teeth a lot, have diabetes, have periodontal disease or are on bisphosphonates do not have as good a success rate with implants and sometimes will be recommended to consider another option.
Before we can decide if you are a good candidate for implants, we need to refer you for a 3D scan of your jaw. This is to make sure there is enough bone to place the implant as well as to know where important anatomical structures are located near the implant (e.g. the sinus or the nerve). Once we have determined that you are suitable, plans can be made to insert the implant, allow adequate time for intergration, then placing the final crown on top of the implant. With proper care and maintenance the implant should provide a beautiful, long lasting replacement tooth or teeth that will feel and look just like your normal teeth.
