Dental Veneers

Illustration of dental veneerDental veneers are a cosmetic solution that almost instantly transforms the way your smile looks. They’re made of porcelain and shaped to fit over the front of your teeth. As soon as we bond them in place, they bring a tremendous cosmetic change to your appearance.

Why Get Cosmetic Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are ideal for:

  • Heavily stained or discoloured teeth
  • Unusual tooth shape or positioning
  • Minor crowding or gaps
  • Irregular tooth size, including chipped edges

Whether you have a wedding coming up, an important work trip or you’ve just always felt self-conscious about your teeth, getting veneers can be a great investment to help you look your best.

If contouring or teeth whitening isn’t enough to accent your natural smile, then veneers tend to be the most appropriate cosmetic treatment. The only time we typically recommend avoiding veneers is if you grind your teeth heavily or already have significant damage to your enamel. If that’s the case, a ceramic crown may be a better alternative.

When Dr Mark Chung (Dentist) designs veneers, they are shaped and colored to your unique preferences. We’ll slightly reduce the thickness of the teeth in your smile zone, so that the veneers can be bonded without looking too bulky.

Unlike crowns, dental veneers only cover the fronts of your teeth, slightly extending over the edges. Yet, the treatment usually takes two visits to our office, similar to what you expect when you get a crown.

Although veneers do not get cavities, the tooth surfaces that aren’t covered can. It’s important to floss and brush around your cosmetic veneers as you would any other tooth, paying careful attention to the margins where the restoration meets your enamel.

If you tend to clench or grind your teeth, ask Dr Chung about getting fitted with a night guard to prevent any chipping to your new restorations.

Our office is equipped with digital technology that allows us to show you a virtual model of what your respective treatment will look like. Dr Chung prefers to use it especially when planning cosmetic dentistry cases that involve crowns or veneers.

When you’re able to see what your teeth could look like before you ever start treatment, it may help you feel more confident about taking the first step and entrusting us with your smile!

Since everyone’s smile is unique, the veneer process varies from person to person. Some individuals have wider smiles than others, requiring more veneers. Typically, six veneers are the minimum that you will need to cover the upper front teeth. It’s not uncommon for some people to need anywhere from 8-10. Usually we don’t put veneers on the lower front teeth except on a case-by-case basis.

When Dr Chung completes your initial veneers consultation, we can give you a good idea as to how many you need and any recommended cosmetic treatments to compliment your smile makeover.
