Dental Implants Artarmon

When you look in the mirror, do you like the smile that you see? If you’re missing teeth, you likely feel self-conscious when having your picture taken or talking to people. You may be missing out on the foods you used to enjoy because you can no longer chew them properly. Have you considered what you can do to restore your smile and confidence?

At Artarmon Fine Dental, state-of-the-art tooth replacement through dental implants is available. With many years of experience, Dr Mark Chung (Dentist) offers different forms of dental implants, including traditional and mini dental implants.

The Incredible Advantages of Choosing Dental Implants

With so many tooth replacement options on the market, you may be wondering why dental implants have become the gold standard of treatment. They are:

  • Designed to last for life
  • Capable of supporting a variety or fixed restorations
  • Non-invasive to other teeth
  • Modeled after the shape and function of natural teeth
  • Extremely strong
  • Available to adults of all ages

Traditional Dental Implants

Modern implants function and behave as close to natural teeth as possible. They prevent us from having to shave down the adjacent tooth structure to support a bridge, making them less invasive to your smile.

Implants’ cosmetic advantage makes them look more like a typical tooth than any other type of replacement option. Their structure is extremely durable, making them capable of supporting more weight than a typical tooth. As such, we can use them in pairs to anchor multi-tooth bridges or hybrid appliances as needed.

Mini Dental Implants

As the name suggests, mini implants are smaller and used when there isn’t enough room for a regular implant. For instance, if two teeth are really close together, or we’re replacing a lower front (or upper lateral) tooth that’s smaller, there’s less space for a traditionally-sized implant. With a mini design, it’s easier to replace the tooth that’s missing when space is a concern.

Mini implants also work well when we need to stabilise or retain a denture. Mark can place 4-6 mini implants with special abutments that the prosthesis can clip onto. If you have an older denture that you want to keep wearing, but it just doesn’t fit as well as it used to, we can install the mini implants and reline the underside of your prosthesis to retrofit it.

The size of mini implants means we have a little less flexibility for their use, especially when it comes to heavy load-bearing teeth. But mini implants certainly play a special role when it comes to areas that have less room or thinner bone structure.

Your Experienced Dental Implant Practitioner

With more than 15 years in practice, Mark has trained extensively in several areas of dentistry. One of these areas of concentration is dental implants, making him the dentist of choice in our community. With his depth of knowledge, you won’t have to worry about being referred to a specialist to have your dental implant completed. You can have your entire procedure, from start to finish, done at Artarmon Fine Dental.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the process of getting dental implants like?

Traditionally, dental implants usually take around three months to complete from start to finish. If extractions, sinus surgery or bone grafting (augmentation) is needed, then the process may require up to six months due to the healing time required.

Implant therapy is performed over a series of appointments, starting with placement of the implant, healing and then installing a permanent fixed restoration. Of course, this can vary if additional surgeries are needed due to complex bone or sinus anatomy. If necessary, we can arrange for a surgeon to visit to provide specialised services to ensure the success of your implant case.

Does it hurt to get dental implants?

Getting dental implants is something that most people fear will hurt. Fortunately, it’s easier than you probably expect. Most people compare it to having a tooth taken out. Since there is no nerve in the bony area around your implant, it’s not painful at all. However, we’ll numb the gums in that area so that you don’t have to feel any discomfort during the placement.

As with an extraction, you might want to take a day or two off before going back to work. Avoid talking too much or exercising for a couple of days as your mouth heals.

How long do implants last?

Taking care of your dental implants is a fairly straightforward process. Mark simply recommends cleaning them as you would your natural teeth. Brush and floss implants daily to prevent plaque buildup and peri-implantitis, which is a specific form of gum disease that may cause implant failure.

Be sure to schedule regular hygiene visits with us every six months to have your implants cleaned professionally.
