$150 Teen Dental Voucher - Preventative Dental Treatment for Eligible Teens-Medicare Teen Dental Plan

What is the Medicare Teen Dental Plan?

On 1 July 2008, the Australian Government introduced the Medicare Teen Dental Plan to help with the cost of an annual dental preventative check for eligible teenagers aged 12-17 years. The program aims to make it more affordable for families to keep their teenager’s teeth in good health.

What does the Medicare Teen Dental Plan cover?-

A preventative dental check can be used to cover expenses associated with an oral examination and, if required, x-rays, scaling and cleaning, and other preventative services- depending on what is needed. However, the benefit can only be paid once in a calendar year that the voucher is issued. The benefit entitles the teenager to $150 worth of  preventative treatment .So in effect, if the cost of the dental visit is $187 for example, then there will be an out of pocket expense of $37. 

Who is Eligible?

If you are elegible for Youth Allowance, ABSTUDY or Family Tax Benefit PartA, Medicare will send you a letter and voucher that entitles  you to the Teen Dental Plan.

If you believe you are elegible for a voucher and you do not receive one in the mail, Medicare Australia has advised that they can be contacted on 132 011.

Yes, ArtarmonFineDental are registered with Medicare and will be able to provide a preventative dental care and will also be able to accept your voucher as payment of $150.Usually there will be a nominal out of pocket gap payment  depending on what treatment has been done. Essentially the voucher holder will receive $150 worth of preventative treatment and you can pay the difference in the total balance. The voucher holder then will need to sign an assignment of benefit form from ArtarmonFineDental, allowing us to claim the dental benefit directly from Medicare Australia.

What to expect at treatment?

ArtarmonFineDental upon receiving your voucher, will be able to give the voucher holder a preventative dental check. We will:  

1/Give you a comprehensive oral examination

2/ Take 2 xrays to check for any teeth decay or gum disease.

3/ Provide a scale and clean

4/Give you oral hygiene instructions and

5/Provide dietary advice where necessary.

The above treatment can be paid by a/ $150 gift voucher and the b/balance paid in full by either cash, credit card or cheque.
