DENTAL IMPLANTS- the ideal & natural choice for permanently replacing missing teeth......

Titanium Implant Fixture Magnified View- Each implant has specific dimensions equivalent to a human tooth root.

For individuals who wish to replace missing teeth, dental implants may be an effective ideal long-term solution. A dental implant is a small titanium cylinder, which is inserted in the jawbone to replace a missing tooth root. When the bone attaches firmly to the implant by a process called osseo integration, a replacement tooth(crown) can then be secured and supported by the newly embedded artificial titanium root. This new tooth can then look, feel and perform just like a natural tooth and is the closest replacement to natural teeth that is currently available.

Implants provide greater structural support and last longer than either bridges or dentures and they do not move around and are fixed in the mouth and more comfortable.

If We had Xray Vision- this is what we would see - A crown sitting on top of an abutment and a dental implant.

Dental Implants are the most conservative way of replacing a missing tooth/teeth permanently
by
1/  preserving bone. They prevent soft tissue collapse related to jaw bone loss (which occurs automatically after a tooth is lost) and allow us to restore your function and comfort of speaking and eating and natural aesthetics predictably.
2/ preventing adjacent teeth being prepared/trimmed down  by traditional bridge work because they do not rely on neighbouring teeth for support.

Bone Grafts & Regeneration

In order to replace a missing tooth with a dental implant or bridges, there must be sufficient and suitable bone to support the implant or bridge. If this criteria is not met, regeneration of the bone should be performed. The procedure uses bone grafts and biocompatible membranes that keeps out tissue and thus, repairs and grows new bone. The new bone growth fortifies the grafted area by creating a bridge between the existing bone and the graft. Eventually, the newly formed bone will replace majority of the grafted material.

In summary Dental Implants can conserve both tooth structure and deterioration of facial bone and are the most cost effective long term solutions for the permanent and nonremovable replacements of missing teeth. Implants restore maximum function and aesthetics predictably so that you can eat , smile and talk with confidence again. They

-Can replace one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth.
-Can help maintain the shape and structure of the jaw bone.
- Support a bridge and eliminate the need for a removable partial denture. Or
-Provide support for a loose denture, making it more secure and comfortable and even eliminate gagging and messy denture adhesive pastes.

What is involved in the implant process?

After a consultation and discussing possible alternatives, we will assess the possibility of providing implant treatment as in dental implants MAY NOT be a good treatment option. In some cases,  X-rays will be taken and impressions for models may also be taken. A treatment plan will then be given to you informing the sequence of treatment and the cost.

The following steps will be discussed with you by your dentist:

Step one: The dentist surgically places the implant in the jaw, with the top of the implant slightly above the top of the bone. The gum is then secured over the implant. The implant will remain covered for approximately three to six months while it attaches to the bone (osseo integration).

Step two: The implant is uncovered and the dentist attaches an extension called a healing abutment, to the implant. The gum tissue is allowed to heal around the abutment.

Step three: Once healed, a crown for the implant can be made. The crown has a size, shape, colour and fit that will blend with your other teeth. The replacement crown is constructed by a specialist dental laboratory. Once completed, the crown is attached to the implant abutment.

Following the completion of the implant treatment, patients need to clean thoroughly around the implant. A review will need to be carried out so that the health of the soft tissue and bone levels can be checked.
